Seeley Lake Yurt

warming yurt

Enjoying the Seeley Creek Nordic trail system became a lot more comfortable in 2014, when ROCKS purchased a yurt from Shelter Designs of Missoula. The LOR foundation of Jackson Hole provided the funds, and local volunteers built the deck and assembled the structure. From 2014 to 2020, volunteers had to disassemble and reassemble the yurt each year, but the Forest Service now allows it to remain year-round through a special use lease agreement. Currently, the yurt is maintained in partnership with the Seeley Lake Nordic Club. Tasks include cutting and stacking firewood, cleaning the canvas, painting the floor, and performing general repairs.

The general skiing public makes good and regular use of the yurt as a place to change boots, enjoy a break between laps, and visit with fellow skiers. The yurt is also home base for the youth ski program, local ski races, and occasion meetings.
